Assemble

What:  Groups of volunteers (5-10 people typically) to help assemble supplies into individual packages for our scholars.  We provide back to school supply packages, college scholar care packages, and dorm room starter kits. They may also also support inventory, organization, and assembly of GenOne supply closets.

When:  4 set times each year (typically in August, October, Spring, and June); 2-4 hours per work session.

Note: These larger engagement opportunities are reserved for institutional sponsors providing significant financial contributions annually.

Connect

Coming in 2025.  In the meantime, please see the other opportunities below.

What:  Connect with our scholars to have career exploration conversations with them.  This could be a one-time conversation to share information about your field, or could evolve into deeper career exploration if the scholar has strong interest and wants to learn more.

When:  After School hours or weekends; times will vary depending on student and volunteer availability.

Engage

What:   Engage with scholars during a variety of GenOne programs and events.

When:  Varies, see below.

Examples programs:

  • Career presentations:  talk with scholars about your career (during After School Club events throughout the year).

  • NACAC Prep Fair:  pretend to be a college representative, to help scholars practice and prepare for the college fair (during an After School Club event in the Fall)

  • Resume building: following a presentation on resume writing, help students individually with preparing their resumes (during an After School Club event in the Winter).
